7 ways to be seen by AI search in 2026
Practical, do-them-today moves to get your business cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, without a marketing degree.
You don’t need to understand transformers to get found by AI. You need to make it easy for a model to understand, trust and quote you. Here are seven concrete ways to do exactly that.
1. Answer the question in the first two sentences
Generative engines love content that gets to the point. Lead with the answer, then explain. If your page makes a model dig for the takeaway, it’ll quote someone clearer instead.
2. Write the questions your customers actually ask
Think about how people talk to AI: “what’s the best X for Y?”, “how much does Z cost?”, “is A or B better?” Build pages and sections around those real questions, and answer them honestly.
3. Add structured data (schema)
Schema markup is a quiet superpower. It tells engines what your content is, a FAQ, an article, a business, a review. It’s one of the clearest “trust me, I’m machine-readable” signals you can send. (This very site uses it.)
4. Build authority signals, not just backlinks
Models weigh whether you’re a credible source. Consistent business information, genuine reviews, mentions in places relevant to your niche, these all tell a model you’re safe to cite.
5. Be present where the model retrieves
AI answers don’t only come from your website. They’re assembled from reviews, directories, communities and third-party mentions. Being consistently described the same way across those places reinforces your authority.
6. Publish consistently on your topic
The businesses winning AI visibility tend to publish steadily on a focused topic. Depth and consistency signal expertise, to both humans and models. (One competitor in a recent audit I ran out-published their rival into total AI dominance.)
7. Measure what AI actually says about you
You can’t improve what you don’t measure. Periodically ask the engines themselves, “who’s the best [your service] in [your area]?”, and see whether you appear, how you’re described, and who’s beating you.
The fastest way to know where you stand
Doing all seven blind is hard. A focused audit tells you which of these you’re already winning and which are costing you visibility right now.
